The first Europeans to arrive were French missionaries and traders in the late 1780's. It wasn't until 1880-1910 that Milwaukee was part of the influx of the 2.7 million German speaking immigrants coming to the US that made 34% of Milwaukee's population first generation Germans by 1910. This explains why there is still such wonderful celebrations of German heritage to this day such as the grand Oktoberfest celebrations every year.
