5th and Madison is targeting a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED™) certification, a standards program developed by the U.S. Green Building Council to encourage sustainability built structures. The building's innovations include a half acre of street level green space that will be kept lush and beautiful with rainwater collected and stored in underground cisterns. Its windows are among the tallest in the city, nearly floor to ceiling, and almost ten and a half feet tall. The natural light and sunshine that pours in goes well beyond the main living area because these homes are built wide and shallow, instead of long and skinny. Unlike many downtown towers, the bedrooms are on the glass as are the living areas.
