The newly built Burnett Lofts near the Bishop Arts district are named after the historical Dick Burnett, an oil tycoon who made his fortune during the East Texas Oil Boom in the 1930s. Born in 1898, Burnett grew up in Gladewater, Texas, and served in the Navy during World War I. After striking oil, he bought a struggling minor league baseball team, moving it to Dallas and renaming it the Dallas Eagles. Burnett made the team successful including his historic signing of Dave Hoskins. His work transformed minor league baseball in Texas. Today, Burnett Lofts would like to invite you to call it's luxurious apartments your new home and join us in remembering the great history of the Oak Cliff neighborhood and more specifically the memory Dick Burnett.
